Why We Are Free
Every seller who finds us eventually asks it: why is this free? What’s the catch? Here is the honest answer.
The question is fair
It’s a reasonable thing to wonder. Real estate has trained people to expect fees everywhere, at listing, at closing, on both sides of the transaction. So when a platform says “free,” skepticism is the right instinct.
Here’s the honest answer.
The real reason we’re free
The traditional commission model charges sellers around 6% of their sale price, not for a service you can’t do yourself, but simply because that’s how the industry was built. On a $750,000 home, a 6% commission is $45,000 gone before you move.
We built SaveOnYourHome because we think that’s wrong. You spent years paying your mortgage. You own this asset. You shouldn’t have to hand over tens of thousands of dollars just to transfer the title to someone else.
The internet has already changed how buyers find homes. Most buyers search online, not through an agent referral. The tools to list, photograph, price, and sell a home are accessible to anyone. What sellers needed wasn’t another brokerage. They needed a platform built around them.
That’s this platform. And charging you to use it would defeat the purpose. Being free isn’t a promotional offer. It isn’t a trial period. It’s the whole point.
Who actually pays
We’re a real business with a real revenue model, it just doesn’t involve charging sellers. We earn revenue through subscriptions paid by vetted service Local Professionals (attorneys, mortgage professionals, photographers, contractors, and others who serve home sellers), plus straight advertising arrangements with mortgage pre-approval Local Professionals. We don’t take referral fees or commissions.
You are never the source of our revenue. For a full breakdown of how the business works, see our How We Make Money page.
What “free” means here
We want to make it easy for people to list. We want to remove any reason for sellers to hesitate or stay on the sidelines. To be specific, here is what “free” includes:
- Creating and publishing your listing
- Uploading photos and writing your description
- Messaging with buyers and scheduling showings
- Pricing help and seller guides
- Our weekly community Q&A call
- Getting connected to our Local Professional directory
No commission. No contract. No commitment. No credit card required. There are no costs.
What we promise we’ll never do
This is the “no catch” part.
- We will never charge you a commission. No commission, period.
- There are no costs. If something on the platform ever has a cost attached, it will be labeled clearly and chosen by you.
If any of that ever changes, we’ll say so clearly, not bury it in a terms update.
The Honor Pledge
Every service Local Professional on SaveOnYourHome has signed our Advertiser & Sponsor Honor Pledge, a commitment to quality, integrity, transparency, and putting users first.
It exists because “free to sellers” only means something if the professionals around you are also held to a standard. We don’t allow Local Professionals to buy their way onto the platform without accountability. The pledge is how we enforce that. You can read the full pledge here.
A note from the founder
I built SaveOnYourHome after watching too many sellers walk away from closings stunned by how much commission they’d just paid, not because they’d used a service they valued, but because they hadn’t known another way existed. There is another way.
This platform is it. I wanted to build something that actually worked for the people selling the home, not just the people surrounding the transaction. Keeping it free for sellers isn’t charity, it’s the design. It’s what makes this worth building. I hope it saves you what it was meant to save.
